Mutual Security Credit Union participated in the Town of Stratford’s in-school Financial Literacy Campaign in April which provided guidance to approximately 500 students about the importance of budgeting their money, financial procedures, and the difference between using their money for things they ‘need’ versus things that they ‘want.’
On April 10 MSCU staff presented The Principles of Money to the 7th Grade of Wooster Middle School and Flood Middle School.
In the Wooster class about half of the students indicated that they have a bank account, and only a few of those make regular deposits.
The credit union reported a positive reaction to the presentation from the students who asked “sophisticated and vitally important questions regarding their financial futures.”
Staff also explained to students that banks work to make profits for stockholders, while credit unions make profits for their members and customers.
