On June 17, 2013 four graduating seniors were awarded scholarships from the Milford Hospital Foundation. These scholarships are funded by the Milford Hospital Employee Giving Campaign and are awarded annually to children, grandchildren, nieces or nephews of current Milford Hospital employees. This year’s recipients are Laura Srivichitranon , Malika Johnson, Alexandra Hill and Megan Wyckoff.
According to Milford Hospital Present/CEO Joseph Pelaccia, the four were selected “because of their strong extracurricular activities, personal accomplishments and outstanding character.”
Laura Srivichitranon, of Milford, is a graduate of the Hopkins School in New Haven where she was involved in numerous extra-curricular activities including: Varsity Fencing, Science Olympiad, Daystar Literary Magazine, Math Team and Orchestra. Laura is described by faculty members as a “simply brilliant” student. She was nominated and awarded Hopkins highest academic honor last year. Laura will be attending Princeton University in the fall and is undecided in her major. Laura is the daughter of Deborah Srivichitranon a Nurse in the Hospital’s Family Childbirth Center.
Malika Johnson is a recent graduate of Stratford High School where she was active in school and in her community, having participated in numerous activities including: Link Crew and the Art Club. In addition, Malika volunteered at the Kennedy Center and at Sterling House Community Center for 4 years working with children and individuals with special needs . Malika is described as “determined” and “confident.” She will be attending Housatonic Community College to study Liberal Arts and Science and hopes to pursue a career as a physician
Alexandra Hill, of Woodbridge, graduated from Amity High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society and the National Art Honor Society. Alexandra participated in numerous school and community activities including the Winterguard, Music in Motion and the Girl Scouts. Her mother, Mary, is the manager of the Business Office. She will be attending Smith College where she intends to study Biology and pursue a career as an Optometrist.
Megan Wyckoff of Trumbull is a graduate of St. Joseph High School, where she maintained honor roll status all four years and was a member of the National Honor Society and the French National Honor Society. During her high school career, Megan participated in numerous extra-curricular and community activities including: the Literary Magazine, Student Ambassadors, Pottery Club and Zumba Club. In addition, Megan was a Religious Education teacher and Tutor at St. Peters Church. Megan is the daughter of Gerry Wyckoff of the Hospital’s Information Technology Department. She will be attending Assumption College and will be majoring in Education.
A committee representative of hospital employees reviewed the applications and selected the recipients. The Milford Hospital Foundation and the scholarship selection committee extend congratulations to all the recipients on a well-deserved honor.
