Students at Lordship School will wear paint shirts and their dance shoes this May for a full day of arts programming, organized by the Coastal Arts Guild of CT and the Lordship Parent Teacher Association (PTA).

On Thursday, May 28, Lordship Elementary School’s 270 students will get hands-on in workshops led by professional artists, members of the Coastal Arts Guild of CT (formerly the Stratford Arts Guild).

Celebrate-Artdrawing“These talented local artists offer our students a rich learning experience and demonstrate the many careers available in the art world,” said Kate Murphy, Lordship School principal. “This new partnership between the Coastal Arts Guild and Lordship School will provide our students with wonderful knowledge and creative ways of learning,”

With help from community volunteers, 12 arts professionals will teach workshops in painting, sculpture, photography, graphic design, dance, drumming and more.

“Even if a child never plans to paint a portrait or study music, concepts taught by artists prepare kids to work — in all fields — more creatively and with more innovation,” said Elizabeth Howard, guild member and event co-organizer. “The arts teach people to see the world more expansively.”

All students will receive a sketchbook, donated by Sketch For Schools. Lordship student Paige Mamone designed the cover art for the sketchbook.

“Paige did such a wonderful job with her drawing,” said Joanna Haddad, Lordship PTA president. “It’s such a pleasure to include her work in this great day.”

This is the first year for the event. For more information or to become a sponsor, contact Elizabeth Howard at info@stratfordartsguild.net.
